Fill my Glass

The glass looks half-filled to me. It has always seemed so. Honestly I did not think it was half-empty until I heard from others. Nevertheless it looks half-filled to me.

The ride home yesterday was rather disturbing. My mind was trying to process the conversation with [PV]. And, I think I might have discovered something about myself; something I cannot accept.

I might be or most probably is a PESSIMIST. I had such a hard time digesting that term, so I went home and searched for clues.

“Pessimism, from the Latin pessimus (worst), is the decision to evaluate, perceive and view life in a generally negative light.” – Wikipedia

I resist accepting this. I certainly do not think I am all about negativity. I am a very fun, jovial person who loves living. You know what, let’s put the ‘loves living’ on hold. I am a little indecisive about that. Anyway, like I said, I am not a negative person! Maybe... I am just a little ....paranoid? *frown*

Yes, I worry about bad things that MAY occur. Many times I am in a heated debate with someone about the negative possibilities. In fact I get annoyed when people fail to think about the negative outcomes of events. It certainly seems like I evaluate, perceive and view life in a negative light. So...I am a pessimist? …*juts lower lip and rolls eyes 270 degrees*

During the conversation with [PV], I mentioned how I felt that the world is becoming a very unsafe place to live in. And, [PV] was rather shocked (or he seemed so). He is a very… (what can I say) optimistic person. His outlook of life always conflicts with mine.

Actually, I always felt that guessing the negative outcomes would help to eliminate them. Simply because, when we realize the possibility of something bad, we will act to prevent it. And, that is good. Right? So, I am a pessimist and so what about it?

But, [PV] says ‘focus your energy on the positive’.

Why…? And how…?

Maybe I should step out to find some answers… and fill my glass. And, you should too if you feel your glass is half-empty.
