My friend said "Relax Faheema. Don't loose cool. Breathe in and breathe out slowly 10 times. Good Nite" and logged out of her Windows Live Messenger. Then I diligently followed her instruction - breathed in and out slowly 10 times. My mind was back to its calm state.
Half an hour ago, I was fuming in anger over a trivial issue. A trivial but extremely annoying issue - irresponsible team members. Being the very sensitive person I am, it irritates me to work with these persons who are negligent about their due diligence in a team work. Here are my allegations :
Late or no response to emails
Trust me. I really do not have time to send my team members (with whom I do not share a bond of friendship) unimportant / junk emails. Every email addressed to them requires attention and acknowledgement. If I send an email calling for discussion on meetings, task allocation or deadlines, I expect a response! How should I interpret no replies? I am not and need not be concerned with reasons that justify the "no response". My email that relates to OUR teamwork requires a reply and you as a team member are obliged to answer it in due time. No matter how busy you are.
Wasting my time
When we schedule a meeting, I presume we do so that we discuss the project. I believe that is the purpose of that meeting. It, therefore, does not seem right to attend the meeting with no preparation. The LEAST a team member can do is read the question assigned! I do not appreciate that you are wasting my precious time that was specifically allocated to discuss answers.
Untackful lies
I have enough experience to judge the behaviour of a team member. If you are going to lie about not being able to attend meeting or meeting deadlines, do so tactfully! I am not encouraging you to be dishonest, but at certain times you simply cannot help but miss a meeting or face with situations in which you are unable to meet an internal deadline. I face such problems too. You know what is the wise thing to do here? Inform the team, or at least one of them, as soon as possible. In providing a valid reason in advanced, you help the team members to cover up for you with less inconvenience. Otherwise you are merely being a pain!
The list could go on, but I think it is unnecessary for me to proceed further. My main allegations are clear and loud enough. I simply cannot tolerate the irresponsibility that exists among some of my team memebers. And, it saddens me sometimes to realize how smart some of these irresponsible people are.
I believe that intelligence will not shine when irresponsibility is shading it.
Totally Irresponsible!
