I went over to my mother’s place today evening. When I entered her room I noticed that the television was switched off. Now that is something unusual in that household. The television in that room (or whichever my mother is in) is mostly on, whether or not anyone is watching it. As soon as my siblings and I started to walk and talk, my mother had to find a companion in the television set. She walks around the house listening to the dialogues of movies, drama serials and anything that is telecasted. And this is how it has been for a couple of decades.
Today, her loyal companion was silent, but the room was filled with noise. She was playing with Zahra and showing her how to beat the new toy drum. Zahra was full of cackles and my mother laughing with a high degree of joy. And, as I stepped into the room my father joins them and makes these funny (never before seen) faces at her. Zahra's cackle tone increases as she throws her arms in joy and *droom* the drums go. Then comes my brother to sit on the bed and squeeze Zahra with his cannot-get-enough-of-her kisses. I take a snap of this and send it to Adil. His chats brightens with such enthusiasm and he cannot wait to see her after work.
I think the best thing I have done for my family (parents and siblings, Adil’s parents and siblings and Adil) is ‘Zahra’.
It has been just 4 months since her arrival and she has enthralled everyone. My daughter, Masha Allah (as Allah has willed), has filled our home with radiance. It is remarkable how she has effortlessly won everyone’s heart. I am bedazzled at the effect she has on people. She has spiked us all with her smell, smile and small stretches.
And, I am in love like never before.
Signed
A truly, madly, deeply in love mother J
